What to look for when buying a computer

RAM
Random Access Memory is data storage in the computer. It allows us to access data by random. Retrieving data is short and consistent. short, because it dosent take any physical movement and consistent because it dosent take time to retrieve data. RAM is the main storage facility in the hardrive it is used for loading, displaying and manipulating applications and data.

Hard drive space
The bigger the hard drive space a computer has, the more applications it allows you to store.

Brand
Some brands of computers are not as good as others. A cheaper brand might breakdown more easily and might not function as well as better branded computer can.

Type of printer
Some computers can't use a certain type of printer. Eg a HP computer can't use a Lexmark printer.

Function (school, family or work)
What is the purpose in buying the computer? Are you buying the computer for the purpose of using spread sheets, documents, powerpoints or simply to download music.

CD media
Does the computer take DVD, CD-R or CD-RW drives?
Does the computer include software for these drives or are they seperately purchased?

Memory
Memory is an important aspect when determining a computer. Find the amount of memory included in the computer and see if it can be upgraded. The memory determines the efficiency of the computer. The more memory in the computer the better it will operate.

Network cards
Network cards should be considered if you have another working computer in your home or small office. Network cards allow data transfers, file sharing, printer sharing and other uses.

Warranty
Warranty is an important step when purchasing a computer. These questions should be taken into thought when purchasing a computer:

Does the warranty go for a suitable period of time?

Does the warranty cover both hardware and software issues?

A computer with a warranty of 12 months of more is suitable. That way if something goes wrong within these twelve months money would be saved for not having to pay for service parts.

Cost
Is it within your budget? Is the price worth it? Can you get the same computer for a cheaper price?
